How many of you use BeerSmith (I myself just bought a copy)? Reason I ask is if many say yes, we might me able to post the recipe file on the posting in this forum so people can load em up and see all the pieces parts (process, colorful charts (SRM, IBUs, OG/SG/ABV, etc)to see if it's within BJCP guidelines, if it's cared about by the viewer, etc, etc)
Just a thought. Right now I'd content just getting a handle on adjusting my water pH, learning how to scale up/down recipe, and custom mash schedules. Crazy cool!

Yup, I have been a fan since 1.0...Got the upgrade recently, and I have never looked back. I have not really
formulated a recipe on 2.0 yet, but as soon as the cool Fall months start, up I'll be back to brewing. Plus I need
a new fridge, so my brewing is on hiatus for now.
We won a free copy a couple of years ago when we went and visited one of the other brew clubs... ya, ya, but we are still at the monks! We have tried Beer Tools, but have stuck with BeerSmith over the years. Seems to be working okay for us so far... been a couple of years that we have been using it.
By the way, MAJOR points for being the first one to start a poll! That is awesome!

That's Ken and now I'm going to tag it to BeerSmith

I use Brewtarget, but I got it when I was unemployed so I was not looking to spend any $. Now I am working, but I have huge bills with my recent knee surgery, so I am still not looking to spend any $! Brewtarget works for me, I am used to it now.

I started to use BeerSmith a while back and it works very well. However I’m a bit lazy and for my past few batches I’ve only used my old word document to keep track of the details. I’m far from proficient with the program. Can you export / import recipes from other people with it? If so do those of you who are using it share among yourselves?

You sure can although I think most people are over protective of their recipes.

I find the contrary with the brewing community, save for the big guys. I am willing to share my recipes. On the Beer Smith sight there are collections of beer recipes. If you have one in particular I believe you can search for it but the program does a great job of dialing you into the style.
The biggest thought process on sharing recipes is, no matter how good you are or how good your system is, there are too many variables
in the brewing process. One cannot really copy a recipe. Water chemistry, grain source, heat source alone will alter recipes to the brewer
faster than anything.

Right on, I think adding some tested recipes to the program might force me to completely change over to using it for all my documentation. I have this internal conflict with record keeping. The man who taught me to brew totally subscribed to Charlie P’s motto of relax and have a home brew for years he made great beer with little or no notes or specific gravity readings. So I tool few notes. However as a Virgo and an Engineer notes and lists are my friend.
Tim,
I have found that some people are a bit strange about giving out recipes. While others are very cool to help out someone like me who is relatively new to the hobby.
Ruben,
Personal I love to share in this great hobby and gladly tell people what I come up with. 100% true Ruben way too many variables in brewing, I have a hard enough time keeping my own process consistent.
I'm not sure how you two use those "" but I really like how clear it makes the conversation. Help me out, how does that work?
If people would like to share could we set up some forum or other way to transfer files? I use gmail and I know it can handle big files or I also use a free version of a program called Dropbox that can handle up to like 2Gb. It would make my day to have some tested treasures from any of you. I’d gladly do the same to share what I do have. My intent is to convert all of mine from my old Word doc to BeerSmith. MY current road block are the grad classes I taking which will all be done and over at the end of Summer, Woo Hoo! So after that I’ll be on the beer mission. For now I have one more free weekend to brew and play before class start back up. I sure some of you know how much work, working full time and going to school full time can be.

Clicking Reply with quote on the posting you want to quote will do that. Then just leave the QUOTE text at the beginning and end.
I tried attaching my recipe that I'm brewing Sunday, but I think unless an admin allows the bsmx file extension (if even possible), we can only attach picture and video files.
We could e-mail it to each other, but posting it here would be way cool and have just post recipes under the recipe section already in place. Everyone would just have to tag the posting with attachment with the style name and BJCP category to help in searching.

Thanks for the link. There are a lot on beer tools. I would still like to populate my BeerSmith. I also dropped the ball at the last meeting and forgot to get a copy of Tim’s recipes.
